We've had coffee makers by Krups(with the espresso maker and frother) - loved it, Braun - o.k. and our latest, a Capresso with thermal carafe. This last one cost over $135 dollars and made mediocre coffee at best and did not, despite our best efforts, live up to its promise of brewing and holding hot coffee.
We've just bought the Mr Coffee 12 cup coffee maker. No thermal carafe (we've found that we drink our coffee soon after brewing and did not need that feature after all), no timer (fill it up in the evening before going to bed and flick the switch in the A.M.), This model does not have much of anything in the line of gimmics or extras. What it does have is an easy-viewing and filling water resevoir and what it does is make very good coffee that is quite hot. That's it. But, that's all we wanted -good coffee. As anyone who has ever used (and enjoyed) a Chemex knows, good tasting coffee requires properly heated water to be poured slowly over good (not neccessarily expensive) coffee. Period. The Mr Coffee AR 12 cup coffee maker does this simply, conveniently and well. We're glad to be back to the basics of good coffee making.
We bought this model in November 2004 and as of December, 2008 the Mr. Coffee is still making good, hot coffee!
